Engine Selection Advice

You must consider the following when selecting an engine,

·         Application                                                  e.g.       Irrigation water pump

·         HP or KW required                                                   20 hp

·         What speed                                                             2500 rpm

·         Direct coupled or belt driven                                      Direct coupled by flexible coupling

·         Ambient conditions                                                  Up to 400C, 30% humidity

·         Site conditions                                                         Under cover on farm site

·         Duty – continuous or intermittent                               Continuous 2500 hrs per year

·         Other factors –         engine exhaust emission ruling requiremnts, side loads, mountings, vibration, electric’s,
                              maintenance and service
points, noise levels, shock loads, exhaust emissions, etc.

Standard Conditions :                 250C ambient temperature, 30% relative humidity, at 100mtrs altitude.

Gross Intermittent Rating :          1 hr rating based on engine without cooling fan, air cleaner, muffler,

but fitted with alternator idling.

Net Intermittent Rating :             1 hr rating based on engine with standard cooling fan, air cleaner,

muffler and alternator (idling) fitted to engine.

Net Continuous Rating :              Continuous output based on engine with standard cooling fan,

air cleaner, muffler and alternator fitted.

De-rating :                                 Refer to DPS or the Kubota Application Manual for de-rating table.

Allowance for changes to the standard conditions being ambient temperature, relative humidity and altitude.

Transmission Factors :               Allowance for power losses in the transmission system eg.

belt and pulley losses,  flexible coupling losses,

gearbox transmission losses, etc.

If you require help in selection or want your engine selection checked, please ask.

For information on engine installation, selection and general engine specifications and dimensions by model, engine performance curves including fuel usage details, engine operating systems, check lists etc, please refer to DPS or the Kubota Application Manual.
